Eight year old Ellen MacDonald heard Santa arrive Tuesday night and ran to greet him at her driveway. The jolly visitor danced in a sleigh and waved to neighbors, delivering a festive early appearance in town.
Ellen MacDonald and Abby MacDonald describe delight as Santa visits the north and south ends of Portsmouth handing out candy canes and treats to dogs. Mothers Lori and Karen praise the tradition, started in 1964 by the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department using a rarely used DUCK vehicle parked at the station.
