Death of William L. McDonald on his forty fourth birthday
William L. McDonald died suddenly from apoplexy at his home on Hazel and Fifth Streets on his forty fourth birthday June 27 1902 after a hot day and yard work. He was born near Weld in 1858 educated at Emery Henry college Virginia married Cora Conner in 1886 and leaves wife and one child. Funeral at five this afternoon conducted by Rev J W Smith, burial Weldon. Odd Fellows will attend.

Preliminary survey completed for Marianna and Brinkley railroad
The preliminary survey of the Marianna and Brinkley railroad is finished. The surveying party arrived last Friday with Mr Harry Jackson of Brinkley, a road promoter. Ferrell and Jackson are expected soon to discuss the project with Marianna citizens. The road is certain to be built at an early date.

Meyers Heads GOP Ticket at Arkansas Convention
The regular Republican state convention adjourned at Glenwood park after nominating a full state ticket led by H Meyers of Monroe county the register of the United States land office at Little Rock for governor. A B Bratton was temporary chairman and Chas N Rix of Hot Springs permanent chairman. The selection method for 42 of 57 state central committee members was altered to leave the choice to delegates from the seven congressional districts. A lengthy platform was adopted.

Editor Col James Mitchell Dies After Illness
Col James Mitchell editor of the Arkansas Democrat died Thursday at 4 40 PM after two months kidney trouble and a recent surgical operation at Battle Creek sanitarium. He fell ill while at the National Editorial Association meeting in Hot Springs in April. He was a respected state figure and firm in his convictions.
