George R. Irby and Lucy A. Taylor wed at the bride’s brother J. O. Taylor home in Newport. The ceremony followed Mendelssohn’s march with Rev J W Smith officiating. They will spend a week in Hot Springs before returning to Newport to reside.
Wynne June 17 The congressional convention remains deadlocked with Macon leading 322 to 233 against Parrish 5 and Taylor 16 after fractional shifts. A recess was called after the 525th ballot as sides pledge to press on, with moves tentatively planned to Jonesboro or Paragould and no clear signal of a quick resolution.
George Willis and J. B. White pleaded guilty to gaming and were fined ten dollars each plus costs. A third defendant received a jury trial but was not convicted and released. The court recessed until two o clock in the afternoon.
