Jackson County assessor announces township meetings to list personal property and per capita tax for 1902. Officials will meet residents across townships with dates and locations published in the Daily Independent starting May 8.

Ignatius Sprigg was able out Monday after a week’s sickness. Alonzo Baldwin returned to Little Rock on the noon train Monday. T J Burton of Layton was in the county seat Monday. Capt James T Henderson came up Sunday to spend the day with his wife. Miss Imogene Williamson of Newark was here Monday en route to Little Rock. Mr and Mrs I Goldman departed on western trip Saturday night for two months. Mrs A G Deener after a visit to Batesville returned home in Marianna Sunday. Henry Hutchinson came up from Little Rock Sunday to visit his brothers. A negro named Dent on Remmel Avenue died Sunday morning and was buried Monday. H G Sanders of Forrest City was here Sunday and Monday. Sheriff John A Hinkle of Batesville went to Little Rock Monday for the Democratic chieftains gathering. Milt Russell of Hale contributed a dollar to the INDEPENDENT while in town Monday. Joe Bevens of Helena spent Saturday in Newport and went to Batesville next morning. Edwin Beyens, bin, was here Monday en route to that city. Mrs Samuel Powell of Little Rock came Sunday noon to visit Miss Neal Phillips and will stay for the Wilmans Phillips wedding. Gus Graham of Roswell, NM arrived Sunday noon from St Louis visiting Mayor J W Grubbs. Mrs W B Empie suffered an accident Monday morning while walking. A plank tilted and bruised her head and shoulder. Col and Mrs V Y Cook were in town Monday with Col leaving for Little Rock to attend the Democratic state convention.
Frank Holleman and Jim Holleman quarrelled Friday afternoon at the Hight Mile commissary of the Western Tie and Timber Co over a debt. A hand to hand fight left Jim severely cut on both sides and along the left arm, with injuries feared fatal. Frank is at large. papers issued and in the hands of the constable who has not located him.
Stewart Brothers received the Iron Mountain contract on Monday and furnished the required bond. Moving of the express office has begun and the next few days will likely see the old buildings relocated.
