Attempted Burglary at Walnut and Fourth Streets

Two unknown men attempted to enter the home of J J Martin on Walnut and Fourth but were frightened away before obtaining anything. Miss Pearl Martin and Mrs M K Upshaw heard noises, neighbors fired five shots in pursuit, but no clues or injuries were reported.

Acquitted After Knife Attack in Kelley Row Incident

At about 9 pm Friday John Duncan was cut by Will Knight during a debt dispute on Kelley Row. Knight defended himself with a knife, slashing Duncan. Duncan was arrested and tried Saturday before Justice L B Harris, defended by Judge M M Stuckey, and Duncan was acquitted of assault with intent to kill.

Articles filed Friday with the secretary of state establish Ward Lumber Company of Newport with a capital stock of 250000 of which 170000 is paid in. Home offices listed in Wayne County Michigan and Mississippi County Missouri, with 87500 invested in Independence County Arkansas. Charles A. Ward is president and Justin R. Whiting is secretary.

Kittrell Stacy Wedding in Augusta Church

Miss Cora Bonner Stacy and Mr Earl Lenwood Kittrell wed at eight thirty in a crowded Methodist church in Augusta. The ceremony featured arches of white carnations magnolias and satin ribbons with ushers bridesmaids maid of honor and best man, and a reception at the Bonner residence following the ceremony.

Hon Charles D Greaves returned home after a White House visit at the president's invitation to discuss the state situation.
