At city hall a three member committee Charles Meyer H Bernstein and R T Simmons was chosen to solicit subscriptions for a July fourth program. Aiming for about 1000 dollars the plan includes Little Rock band public speaking a ball game gun club shoot balloon ascension parachute leap and a grand riverfront fireworks display. Site likely near the lake east of Choctaw track with next meeting to report Tuesday at 7 30 p m. Newport hopes to draw Northeastern Arkansas crowds.

Futile search for remains after drowning near Agosto
Captain O H Kennedy of the City of Idaho returned to Newport after a vain effort to recover Henry Ward Kennedy drowned fourteen miles north of Augusta on May 30. Nine miles of dredging and two steamers lashed together failed to raise the body amid willow and driftwood as floodwaters hindered the work. Over two hundred pounds of dynamite used with the help of thirty men yielded no result. The father hopes the body surfaces when the river falls.

Father Attempts to Kidnap Child in Augusta

Negro man fined for giving away beer to minors
Sallie James appeared before Justice Guy Smith on a Saturday morning charge of distributing beer to underage youths. He admitted providing money to two boys, who bought a can of beer from a nearby saloon for the minors. James was fined sixty dollars plus costs and remarks noted repeated offenses.
