Danish Brotherhood and related lodges in Newell history
The Newell Mirror outlines the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 147 founded December 11 1901 with 22 founders and long service by members across the US Canada and Iowa towns. It notes the Danish Sisterhood Henrytte Lodge 109 formed April 21 1908 and the Odd Fellow Lodge since 1872 and Royal Lodge No 428 A F and A M formed 1882 with 1969 officers, plus temple moves and community activities.

Mission Chapter 401 Order of Eastern Star History
The Order of the Eastern Star began in Newell on March 20 1906 and received a charter from Iowa later that year as Mission Chapter 401. It started with 21 charter members led by Sophia Andersen as Worthy Matron and E H Cunningham as Worthy Patron among a long list of early officers. By 1956 the chapter marked its Golden Anniversary with 50 year member Geraldine Housholder present and June Samelson as Worthy Matron, followed by minor 1966 additions. Now Mission Chapter has 98 members and the 1969 officers include Worthy and other titles.
