Newell American Legion and Auxiliary History Highlight Local Service
Civic groups shaped Newell with the 193 American Legion chartered in 1919. It lists first officers, growth to 143 members by 1967, and projects from lights for the baseball field to park improvements. The 193 Auxiliary formed 1921, rides yearly Memorial poppies, clothing a needy child, and hosts child welfare work. Also notes VFW Post 6777 organized 1946 with charter members and long-standing WWI and WWII veterans.
