Hon Victor Murdock to Speak in City Lyceum

City of Newberg real estate dispute before Circuit Court

Judge Kelly conducted a two day preliminary term to clear backlogged business. Many out of town lawyers attended and most cases were scheduled for specific hearing dates. In the reservoir project case City of Newberg versus Charles Skelton and wife a new trial was requested by the defendants. Season Tickets for Lyceum Open on October 11

Congressman Victor Murdock of Kansas will open the lyceum course on Wednesday night October 11. Demand for season tickets is tight and buyers should act quickly. On Saturday October 7 seats are assigned to current ticket holders and held for the season to avoid reseating for each number.

Miss Laura C. Heston Leaves Seattle for Manila to Serve

Miss Laura C. Heston, graduate nurse from Good Samaritan Hospital class of 1909, sails Monday on the steamship Minnesota from Seattle for the Philippine Islands to serve as Government nurse at Manila. She came to Newberg with her parents from Henry County Indiana, lived near Dundee after their deaths, completed high school and hospital courses, then practiced two years around Portland.

Marriage of Chas A Morris and Clara Pearl Miller

The Peoria Journal reports the wedding of Clara Pearl Miller of Peoria to Charles A Morris of Newberg Oregon at the bride’s North University driveway residence. Rev James Benson officiated before close relatives. The bride wore white net with a rose bouquet. The groom, Bradley Polytechnic horology graduate, worked at Welte Wieting before returning home to Newberg and business success. The couple returned Sunday from a Canadian Pacific wedding journey with stops, praising educational opportunities.

Newberg Schools Open With Full Week of Activity

Opening week at Newberg schools begins with a 9 30 am College session led by new president Levi T Pennington. Faculty new members presented music by Mrs Eva Hull and a large influx of new students from Washington state and Victoria BC. First day registrations reach 141 in High School and 524 in grade schools as the town returns to its lively pace.

Weesner Wedding in Amboy Indiana

The wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Weesner was officiated by F. Randolph with Miss Mary Carter as cousin of the bride and Hazel Carter Florence Years as bridesmaids. Best man Melville D. Hawkins and Chester Bundy as second. Twenty six guests attended. The couple plan to visit family then move to Newberg Oregon where Mr. Weesner leads the Pacific College mathematics department. They will be at home after October 1. The marriage stems from an Earlham College friendship formed four years earlier.

Obituary of James Parker Bryan

James Parker Bryan born February 16 1844 in Carroll County Missouri. He moved with his parents to Oregon in 1852 and settled near Newberg. He married Sarah A Ramsey in 1868 and she survives him. He fathered nine children seven daughters and two sons and all survive him. He died Friday September 22. Funeral services were held at Dundee church conducted by John Shires and burial followed in the hill cemetery.
