Car Saving by S P Agents Reports July 1917 Total
G W James, local agent of the Southern Pacific Company, notes a July 1917 car saving of 6402 cars against July last year due to loading competition. Major gains come from merchandise 1626 cars, lumber 509, miscellaneous 2191, barley 424, cement and plaster 159, rice 94, paper 78, corn and oats 28, salt 40. The increase of 1400 pounds per merchandise car saved 1626 cars, equivalent to 142 trains of 45 cars.
