Southern Pacific Officials Select Newberg Depot Site
Southern Pacific Division Superintendent O'Brien and Construction chief Fields visited Newberg to evaluate sites for a new depot. They favored a location east of the handle factory between School and College streets, citing grade and switches as reasons to reject western options. The city would host street improvements and the project could cost about seven thousand dollars for the depot and up to seven thousand five hundred for the switches, with no bonus asked from Newberg.
