Aguinaldo supposedly orders northern troops to resume farming as U S forces tighten hold on coastal towns Dagupan San Fernando and Delicinet evacuate under gunfire and await American protection.
New York Oct 7 The sea again thwarted Shamrock and Columbia as a light drifting breeze produced a race that could not be completed. After 4 hours 42 minutes the fleet had only 12 miles sailed and the regatta committee abandoned the contest due to time limits and insufficient wind. Captain Ben Parker assisted Shamrock skipper Wringe's efforts to stay close to Columbia.
Governor Rogers of Washington met the Washington volunteers returning from Manila aboard the transport Pennsylvania in San Francisco. Governor Gage hosted a Palace hotel reception for the delegation. The party included Senator Turner and wife, Senator Foster, Mayor Humes, and several other Seattle Tacoma and Walla Walla figures.
Washington Oct 7 The secretary of war issues a directive re enforcing provisions of orders No 62 August 24 1597 for fort visits urging stricter observance and enforcement after notices that previous orders were disregarded.
Managua reports a court martial has condemned General Pablo Reyes and several insurgent officers to death in absentia for the February movement at Bluefields. Only one top leader was captured, now jailed, while arrests and impressments continue amid a quiet political climate.
The Mallory steamer Leona burned and sank at her Fast river wharf tonight. Its cargo of tobacco and 8,000 bales of cotton, valued at 250000 to 300000 dollars, is a total loss. the vessel is nearly a wreck.
Captain Bowen of the Arctic Stream reports sighting the Gifford off Staten Island near the Straits of Magellan on August 11. The Gifford took men from an open boat and said five Tekoa crew members had been rescued after the Texoa was wrecked on Staten Island several days earlier.

He endured snake attack and fire, was speared to death, torn apart, and eaten with two sheep as his wife was given another husband. A British warship was informed but no action reported.
