James B. Craft of Glen Cove L I was killed in a Tenderloin resort near Broadway. Evidence points to robbery as motive after sedative and beating, body decapitated with a cleaver, discovered by burning odor and identified by Walter Craft. Craft was a 51 year old refrigerating machinery manufacturer in Cortlandt street.
A Rome dispatch reports Stromboli erupting for days with lava flows to the sea and boulders plunging from cliffs. It notes no Sicily earthquake but suggests a submarine event between Stromboli and Sicily. Modica reports 150 corpses and many drownings in the region. Mount Etna vents a steam plume and two new Stromboli craters opened since September 14.
