Denver dispatch reports Walter H. Whitten, formerly of Newberg, killed during a La Veta mining dispute. He and three deputies were sent to rescue a captured man amid a strike when their car came under attack.

Levi P Poe Dies Sudden Death While Ditching at Dundee Home
Levi P Poe born October 13, 1856 in Jasper county Iowa died suddenly last Friday while ditching at the new home of Fred Crawford near Dundee. He married Alice Hunter in 1883 and moved to Oregon in 1893 settling in Silverton and then Newberg. He leaves a wife a daughter three grandchildren and three brothers. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. A T Norwood.

Train to McMinnville Planned for Prohibition Celebration

Judge bars liquor seller from citizenship in Cass County
Judge Charles A Pollock refused naturalization to Samuel S Klugman of Fargo after learning he worked for a Moorhead wholesale liquor house. The judge stated no person in the liquor trade can be a desirable citizen and warned the ruling will guide future cases in Cass County court.
