Eight men and engine fall from bridge in Des Chutes incident

A crew of eight men and a Thompson & Dutcher traction engine plunged about 15 feet when a county bridge near the Waddell settlement across the Des Chutes river gave way during repairs. Three men were seriously injured. The contractor had just finished work and notice restrictions were not removed. The engine and crew face possible indemnity claims for damage and repair. In Brooklyn New York yesterday Ot Anderson was killed at a railroad camp when a premature dynamite blast blew him up. Movement to Cuba Gen Carpenter in Command

The War Department orders a brigade from the Seventh Army Corps to move to Neuvitas and Puerto Principe for initial occupation of two points in Cuba. Brigadier General L H Carpenter will command from Nuevitas with 60 days of rationing and equipment. The transfer includes reorganization of cavalry and infantry units and revocation of a prior deployment order.
