Mrs. Be S Greer of Dundee presented a paper at a county women’s clubs meeting in McMinnville on May 4. She argues education should balance practical skill and culture, emphasizing concentration, brain power, accuracy, and lifelong service as the path to happiness.
The junior class will present the annual play A Scrap of Paper at Duncan's hall on May 26 at 8 pm. Prof Taggart leads in the production with Miss Rees coaching. Kienle's orchestra provides music. Tickets: Hodson's and Kienle's sell seats at 25 cents general and 35 cents for reserved.

The Oolite Music Department held a Monday recital in Woodhall Hall with Miss Blythe Owen Miss Frances Elliott Miss Edythe Brunquist and others presenting intricate numbers from memory. Mrs Hull and Mr Hull plus Roy Lyle and Frank Sharp accompanied as Bach Aria in C was played. The event marked the closing pupils recital of the college year.
The spring apportionment mailing on May 9 shows the high school fund at 10327.09 and the county fund at 34160.99. The high school distribution matches the law: 40 per pupil for the first 20, 30 per pupil for the next 20, and 12.50 for remaining pupils. Mary Elizabeth Major born August 22 1832 in Patrick County Virginia died May 12 1916 at 8 30 am in Newberg Oregon. She moved to Missouri as a child and married George W Hardwick in 1863. The couple had two childrenGeorge T Hardwick and Mrs C J Leavitt. The family settled in Oregon in 1875 and later in Newberg where she lived until death. She is survived by
Mothers Day services under the W. R. C. auspices were held at the Christian church last Sunday at 2 pm. Rev. B. L. Hicks delivered the theme The Mothers of Men. Music was excellent with a standout performance by Mrs. Whitely.
Executive Board discussed plans to hold union services each Sunday evening through the summer months. The Friends society led by Prof. M D Hawkins will discuss The Blessings of Peace and How to Get Them next Sunday. Baptist Young People under Miss Dixon will also explore the topic. Mrs Jones will lead a Springbrook meeting next Sunday, with attendance encouraged to identify the correct Mrs Jones.
Regular monthly business meeting of the Board of Charities will be held Tuesday at 7 30 P M at city hall. Full attendance of the board desired. Ida M Woods secretary.
A medal contest is slated for Saturday at 8 PM in the Springbrook auditorium. Admission is 10 cents for adults and five cents for under 12.
Police report a double homicide near Sherwood Oregon on a farm in which Mrs Helen Jennings was slain with an iron wedge and Fred Ristman a Portland jitney driver is believed murdered nearby His car was found bloodied near the scene and two ex-convicts are held on suspicion.
A Thursday evening recital at the Presbyterian church showcased Miss Britt's advanced pupils. The program included piano numbers, two vocal selections by Mrs. Morris, a reading, and a violin obbligato by Frank Sharp accompanying Mrs. Georgia Babcock singing In Loves Garden. L. W. Gatchell aided with a baritone solo Tis I and a vocal duet with Mrs. Babcock, with several encores.
Oregon Grand Chapter P E O meets in Portland at the Social Service Temple May 23 to 25 with supreme president Mrs Helen M Drake to speak Beatrice Nebraska. Delegates from Chapter F entertain with a Columbia Highway tour and a formal reception. Chapter L Newberg and alternates listed. Four new chapters organized in Oregon recently.
Baptist Ladies' Aid Society sponsors a food sale next Saturday at Creoe's Meat Market featuring cakes and pies for Sunday dinner. Proceeds support church and community efforts.
