Big Road Meeting Set in Newberg by Auto Clubs

The Yamhill Auto and Commercial Club hosts a Good Roads Association gathering in Newberg Saturday night with leaders from Portland including Wm. McMurray and C. B. Merrick to discuss immigration development and road improvements. About fifty to seventy five auto roads from Portland are expected and efforts to repair Rex and Tigardville roads are underway.

Midnight blaze damages Duncan's Opera House and VanOsdol stock

A fire at Duncan's Opera House in the northeast corner on First street caused heavy damage to the building and the VanOsdol confectionery stock on the first floor. Mrs. N. R. Oliver raised the alarm. Fire crews used four water streams. the tin roof kept flames in check until extinguished. Insurance on the VanOsdol stock was in question due to transfer issues.

Modern low headed trees cut ladders use, 98 percent marketable fruit, 6 percent lowest grade sold at 3 to 3 50 per barrel. Allemaine 66 percent graded, sold at 8 per barrel, boxes 3 retail 75 cents to 1 per dozen. Connecticut apples shipped to 22 states praised as best ever.

W. C. T. U. Meeting and Dundee Evangelistic Visit

The W. C. T. U. plans its regular meeting on Wednesday May 24 at Mrs. E. C. Baird’s home with Anti Narcotics as the topic. Ten members attended a Dundee trip to hear Edith Hill Booker conducting evangelistic services and Vera Seeley sang hymns at the event.

Newberg Track Stars Earn Eight Points At State Meet

At Eugene the Newberg track team earned eight points as Omer Gause placed second in pole vault and Virgil Fendall won broad jump. Medals were awarded. The squad advances to Corvallis for the state meet. Newberg also beat the eighth grade 14 to 7 in baseball.
