Jersey herd sale nets high prices in Oregon auction
The Springhill Jersey herd sale by J. D. Gordon & Son drew buyers from Oregon Washington and California. The first 15 cows averaged 228 a head with total sale 7235. Governor's Gertie Marigold and Governor's Mary led bids of 260 and 280 while Lodema Marigold sold for 255 and several other head fetched strong prices.

Seventy five Portland business visitors arrived Friday afternoon and were welcomed by Mayor N. C. Christenson and W. A. King. Acknowledgments were given by Samuel Connell and R. M. Irvine. The group toured Main and First streets then climbed the public school tower for a city view, expressing delight at Newberg’s growth.

Newspaper access improves grammar punctuation and geography understanding
An experienced teacher states that pupils with home newspapers become better grammarians and punctuators and read more understandingly while gaining geography knowledge in about half the time. He calls the newspaper an important factor in modern life.
High School Building Contract Awarded Despite Changes
The Newberg school board closed a contract with E G Anderson of Portland for the new high school, bidding 28 850 after removing plastering. The project includes a 130 by 77 foot, 45 foot high building with tar and gravel roof and Newberg red face brick. Completion within six months after site title transfer is required. A June election may authorize selling extra sites to fund the project. Also noted is the death of Peter John Gra ham in Newberg at age 7 years 7 months and 20 days, with funeral services by Rev Hays and burial in Friends cemetery.

Perkins Starts Long Trip Through California and South
Wm Perkins leaves on Sunday for a months long tour through California and the Southern states. He will visit New York, Villard Minnesota, Lisbon North Dakota, Fresno and Los Angeles, the South, and the capital, hoping to return by October. He plans to spend time with his daughter and family and see his nephew Congressman Miller of Minnesota.
