In the Victory Liberty Loan drive two German helmets were awarded to the largest subscribers in the county. Michael Muller of Dundee and L. A. Moore of Newberg received the prizes for total purchases exceeding forty three thousand dollars. Muller plans to visit Paris and reports a meeting with a fellow purchaser. The helmets are officer models for a hoped for Paris march.

A muddy, humid night slows a marching column as rain soaks gear. Soldiers trudge through pools, horses splash in puddles, and heavy packs weigh down the men as they deviate from the planned route. Sixteen kilometers become the new march in a forest without shelter or rest.

Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends Church Opens

The twenty seventh annual gathering of Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends church begins at 10 o clock and runs daily through next week. Clerks from last year Pennington Oliver Weesner and Marguerite P. Elliott return as clerks. Meetings are at 8 am and 8 pm with morning and afternoon sessions on missions evangelism and church extension. W C Woodward speaks on Peace and Arbitration and Education. Chester A Hadley gives the C B rally address Saturday evening. Monday covers Bible schools temperance and social service.

Farewell Reception for Rev Hightland Family

Free Methodist church members hosted a farewell reception for Rev and Mrs B W Hightland at F A Young’s home. The gathering was pleasant with ice cream and cake as the Hightlands prepare to depart for their field at The Dalles.

Oregon Growers Co operative Association Formed

Seventy five Oregon fruit and nut growers met at the Portland hotel to form the Oregon Growers Co operative Association. Robert Paulus was named chairman and Earl Percy secretary. The plan, presented by Sapiro of California, was adopted with enthusiasm. The absorbing institutions include Salem Fruit Union and several prune and fruit associations. Articles of incorporation will be filed, with no immediate takeover of crops.
