The Liberty Bell Early History and Key Dates

The Liberty Bell measures three feet two inches in length and was cast for the first time in London in spring 1752. It then travelled to Philadelphia with a second mint in March 1753 and a third in June 1753. Costing $300, the bell’s first major public ring occurred August 27, 1768 to summon an assembly that defied British monetary control. A crack appeared on July 8, 1835 during news of John Marshall’s burial in Philadelphia.

Percy A. Lockwood Faces Book Theft Charge

Percy A. Lockwood, formerly city engineer, now operating a rooming house in Eugene, was arraigned before Justice A. C. Churchill on a charge of carrying away city survey books. Bound over for a hearing, the case was dismissed after he produced the records. He allegedly left Newberg with the records after being superseded by Arthur Hodson to avoid new surveys and city expense.

POUND PARTY REUNION DRAWS FOLKS TO LAWN GATHERING

A pleasant outdoor event featured a well laden table under trees and a large souvenir picture. Nine attendees had previously joined a similar reunion at Ionia Kansas four years earlier. Mr and Mrs C A Morris depart for San Francisco to attend a post graduate optics course at the World Optometric Congress July 19 to 27. Dr Frederick A Woll and Dr A Jay Cross will lead the program with extensive instrumentation. Staples of Portland will manage the Morris jewelry business during the absence.
