The Columbia Southern Railway Extension Company filed articles of incorporation in Portland on January 15 to extend from Shaniko to Bend in Oregon and add capital stock. Bend Line Extension Details and Capital Stock Authorization

The plan proposes a Bend area extension about 100 miles with branches to Ashwood and Prineville. Authorized capital stock is 1 million dollars. The route starts at Shaniko near Columbia Southern, heads south to Deschutes River near Bend, with Trout Creek branch to Ashwood via the Oregon King mine and a Crooked River branch to Prineville.

The incorporators are officers of the Columbia Southern Company with Mr Ly tle as president Miss Enright secretary and Mr Deyoe auditor of the old corporation. The whole property will be a single line from Biggs to Bend and the route is being reconnoitered though the exact location is not fixed yet. Engineers have been in the field for several days conducting the work.

Locomotive Explosion Kills Engine Crew Near Victor Iowa

Denver limited train No. 5 on Rock Island suffered a boiler explosion near the depot at Victor Iowa at 5 55 this morning killing the engineer and fireman and injuring two porters and a brakeman. Seven coaches left the tracks while the Des Moines Pullman overturned. passengers remained unharmed. Pieces of the wrecked engine lay scattered for 200 feet and the cow tethered nearby was found 140 feet from the scene.
