The Sheridan Sun notes E H Woodward of the Newberg Graphic completing thirty years as editor and publisher on January 1 1920. It recalls the paper’s growth from 14 to 48 columns and from hand press to modern equipment and linotype.
The Newberg Graphic celebrates its 30th year under current management with Editor Woodward guiding growth as Newberg evolved from a country hamlet to a city near 3000. The piece recalls staff changes in Yamhill county papers and notes lasting service by local publishers and editors across several titles.
A Friday night concert at WoodMar Hall on January 16 promises memorable music and inspiration for lovers and students alike. Tickets cost 75 cents and are selling fast, with remaining seats at Kleinle’s Music Store or from Monday Musical Club members. The event starts at 8:00 PM.
On Thursday January 8 Shiloh Relief Corps served a dinner for the G A R and friends then a joint installation followed Adj Gen Williams of Portland assisted by T M Kellogg installing G A R officers for the coming year led by Commander D E Way and J V Commander Levi Dobbins The Women’s Relief Corps officers were installed by Mrs Elizabeth Clemmens with Frances Woodruff as President and other officers named.
Estelle Gray performs the priceless Cremona violin with husband Mischa Shevinne a noted composer and pianist. The program opens at 8 p m with expressive violin and piano pieces described as vivid and Romantic. Tickets or details available via Kienle's Music Store.
Oregon City January 10 Special E. E. Brodie publisher of the Morning Enterprise announced he will not seek the Republican nomination for Secretary of State next May. He cites dedication to his newspaper career and the Enterprise’s long history since 1866, with 54 years in operation and 15 years at the helm, as reasons to remain as publisher. He notes broad editorial support but prefers leadership of his paper over public office.
The National War Work Council of the YMCA funds educational work for ex service men in Oregon and Idaho. Programs include free scholarships to Y M C A and other schools, college and university aid, home study courses, lecture bureau service and Americanization. County allocations depend on population. local committees form soon with applications via local associations in listed cities or Room 605 YMCA Building Portland.
The Ministerial Association meeting Monday heard treasurer Rev. W. N. Coffee report a Thanksgiving collection of 168.53 for Armenian and Syrian relief. Rev. J. H. Gillespie of Pla to present paper at the next meeting.
Emma Bell Christenson formerly Emma Taylor Bell Bell Bell Bell, 69, died Saturday in Corvallis after a long illness from breast cancer. Born April 9 1851 in Scott county Indiana she lived in Newberg Oregon for 30 years. Survived by husband C H Christenson four children from first marriage sister Mary Bankson and numerous grandchildren. Funeral held at Baptist church with Andee K Black of Portland officiating burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The Friends Church holds ongoing revival meetings led by Evangelist Hodgin with about forty at the altar seeking definite Christian experience. Services run 7:30 pm each evening this week, 2:30 pm Tuesday to Friday, and a 3:00 pm Sunday mass meeting with special music. Prayer meetings precede the 7:30 pm services. Pastor Fred E. Carter invites townsfolk to attend and seek spiritual renewal.
M. D. Evans resigns as travelling representative to become field representative for the Oregon Growers Association headquarters at Salem. A Cornell graduate and former O A C student, he has 12 years in Oregon and previously led school and home garden work in Portland, served as assistant county agent leader, and worked as a U S Department of Agriculture specialist across eleven western states. He assumes duties January 19.
The Christenson family and Mary FE Bankeson thank friends in Newberg for loving attention shown at the funeral service.

A meeting of the Oregon Growers' Cooperative Association will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Springbrook schoolhouse auditorium. Prof. C L Lewis, organization manager, will speak. Local fruit growers are already members and all interested in the cooperative movement are invited.
The morning service at 11 includes Mozart Prelude and hymns with choir and congregation plus sermons by Rev. W. R. Jewell and Mrs. Walter Wilson. The 7:30 evening program features anthems solos and a quartet with a note of fourth annual musical service on Sunday evening January 25.

The U S Civil Service Commission announces a rural carrier examination for Yamhill County Oregon to be held at McMinnville and Newberg on February 14 1920 to fill the Carlton rural carrier position and possible future rural route vacancies. Open to citizens domiciled in the county with other required qualifications. Forms and blanks available from local offices or the Civil Service Commission in Washington D C. Applications should be sent to Washington as soon as possible.
A church invites children to join Sunday School at the Church of God location near the new bridge. The program started last spring in a cottage and now meets in a hall with about 40 attendees. The message says the Lord is blessing and welcomes all.
