Hill Vestal Nuptials Brighten Family Home

Miss Iane P Hill wed Francis E Vestal at the Winslow home in a quiet ceremony attended by close relatives. The couple received guests in a ivy canopied setting with Rev A J Weaver officiating. After congratulations, light refreshments were served. They plan to reside at 112 North Meridian Street after April 1 following a brief honeymoon.

Their Silver Wedding at Byers Home on School Street

A Feb 11 gathering at Mr and Mrs Byers home on School Street celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with games and guessing contests. Guests enjoyed refreshments and left with silver mementoes after well wishes for a future golden wedding.

City council approves park site purchase and new city offices

Monday night meeting with mayor and council approves a 3000 dollar bond for buying a park site. A second ordinance authorizes purchase of Block 3 Edwards Second Addition Newberg for 3000 dollars for park use the oak grove block. The city attorney to condemn Skelton spring and a land survey is ordered. Acting mayor Ferguson and officials named with night watchman hours set.

Special Brings 600 to Newberg Basket Game

Nearly six hundred spectators packed the new Newberg High School gym for a heated county championship basketball battle. Newberg surged ahead early and dominated, ending with sixteen baskets to McMinnville’s five. Corpron led the visitors, while Larkin Otis and Fendall starred for Newberg. A special train is planned for the return game in McMinnville on March 10.

Bank Installs New Safe

The First National Bank received a new Victor Spherical safe weighing just under two tons. Placed near the front window in current quarters, it is to stay until the new bank building is ready. The safe toppled from a wagon during unloading leaving a mark on the cement walk.
