In London a meeting of religious denominations endorsed the czar’s disarmament plan. Paris reports a fatal housing collapse with four dead and others gravely injured, and fears of additional bodies in the debris. Mary Tutt Throckmorton dies at 58 from inhalation of gas in her room.
The will of the late Edward Avetin of Boston bequeaths 1 100 000 dollars to public aves. A recent decree in Liberia orders a trial by jury after January 1. The British government announces a generous grant to aid those distressed by the recent hurricane in the Weet In.
William T. Stead reports a push for an international peace demonstration to influence the czar’s peace conference. He urges U S participation by late January through public meetings and resolutions, noting English and Anglo American cooperation and plans for a 15 man 6 woman delegation to travel Europe in a peace pilgrimage.
Lieutenant Richard Pearson Hobson faced a crowded Chicago audience as 163 kisses from as many girls greeted him after a lecture on The Sinking of the Merrimac. He accepted the attention bravely, then left for Kansas City and future engagements en route to Manila aboard the City of Peking.

He notes orderly troops, empty treasury, no customs, and plans to raise the flag, while stating taxes will be fair and no favoritism. He vows to convert forts to homes and use machetes only for labor.
Havana reports a settlement on Spanish archives transfer with American and Spanish military boards agreeing that only documents tied to the Spanish government depart, while autonomist papers remain intact. In Kansas a Jefferson county tie was broken by lot awarding Scott the certificate after a late vote correction. Coastal ships head to Cuba with troops and regiments to follow. Brooke is ill with a cold and fever, with the fever reportedly high and possibly keeping him in Savannah for a week. New incorporations in Colfax Washington form Colfax Supplement Company to trade in agricultural implements led by Aaron Kubo J W Hereford and L D Woolworth with capital stock of $100 000.
In San Francisco on December 19 the defense faced a severe setback as two witnesses offered convincing testimony. They tied Mrs Botkin to writing anonymous letters to Mrs Dunning and to purchasing a handkerchief found with poison candy, forming a stronger prosecution link.
Rear-Admiral Dewey refused to discuss politics in the Philippines calling his duty naval. A wagon carrying eight people was struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad train at the Allenwood crossing near Manasquan New Jersey. Four died two fatally injured and two seriously injured. Names include Mrs Ellen Allen Bessie Allen Allie Alger and Jennie Crammer. David Allen husband of Mrs Allen also fatally injured and Kate Allen their daughter. Mr Allen was a prominent local figure in Allenwood.
Rev. H W White arrives on the Gaelic with stark news of Chin Chow Fu and Shang Taong provinces in China where droughts and famine kill thousands amid limited aid. Also, Congress confirms a major concession for colonization steamship and railway ventures on the Gulf of California and Yuma with six steamers.
Bound for Havre and Southampton the American peace commission departed tonight and will sail tomorrow from Havre on the steamer St Louis to New York. In Chicago a wall collapse at Palace livery stables killed two firemen Lieutenant Matthew Myer and Track man Patrick O’Hern and injured several others. property loss about 90000.
