An extra Northern Pacific freight train laden with steel plunged down Kendrick hill amid ice and snow. Fire destroys factory. 50 horses perish in basement blaze

A fire at 655-657 First Avenue New York raged from 12 40 am sweeping a large factory building. The blaze caused panic among nearby tenements as flames and sparks showered crowds. The basement housed a livery stable where 50 horses burned. Loss estimated at about 75000 dollars.
