Special Session Called By Governor Olcott for January

Salem reports Governor Olcott will summon an extraordinary legislative session on January 12 to address inadequate industrial accident compensation rates. The Industrial Accident Commission warns living costs have risen and many employers supplement payments. The session aims for limited, necessary legislation to adjust compensation.

Community Concert at Wood-Mar Hall December 19

The Civic Club presents a free community concert at Wood-Mar Hall on December 19 with Carrie Jacobs Bond works. Loyal Legion of Loggers Names Norman Coleman President

Norman F. Coleman head of Reed College English department in Portland has accepted the presidency of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen. The office was vacant since Brigadier-General Brice P. Disque resigned last May. Coleman, self educated and once a farm hand and factory worker, has taught at Reed since 1912 after Whitman College.

Words of Appreciation for Local Service Members

Curfew Law Praised For Cleaning Up Portland

The Portland Journal reports Mayor Baker praising the curfew ordinance as more effective than any other measure. Oregon cities including Eugene are enforcing curfews while Newberg debates its need and whether enforcement protects side streets as well as First street. Churches recently voted in favor of adopting the law.
