Newberg Fire Devastates Plant and Looming Rebuild
A blaze in the Oregon Handle Manufacturing Company factory at Newberg destroyed the eastern section within an hour after ignition. The plant valued at about 6000 dollars and stock at 6000 dollars was lost, with 2000 dollars insured. The wind fanned burning brands toward a nearby public school. Company officials say they will rebuild, possibly relocating to Portland with conditions under consideration. Also reported is the death of Mrs. S. W. Atkinson in Newberg after a brief illness, with services held at the M B church and burial at Roselawn.
