Golden Wedding Celebrated by Oregon Veterans Drum Corps

On a Portland train arrival Newberg’s W H Brooks and his wife marked their fiftieth anniversary with a Veterans Drum Corps procession. Civil War veteran Brooks enlisted in 1861 at age fifteen, later serving as drummer for the Post Band in Camp Butler Illinois. A ceremony, feast, and gifts followed at a hall with an arch of green and gold while Oregon members offered congratulations.

Meeting of Veterans at Sheridan

The seventh annual Yamhill County Veterans Association reunion was held in Sheridan on August 12 and 13 with a smaller turnout than usual. Officers elected for the next year include President J. Stillwell and Vice-President G. W. Buckley, with secretary Mrs. W. Corbett and treasurer D. H. Turner. Dayton will host next year’s gathering, date to be set by the board.
