The twentieth Founders Day will be held at Champoeg on Saturday May 1 marking the seventy seventh anniversary of the pioneer meeting in Oregon. Joe Meek figures prominently with descendants at the gathering and Judge P H D Arcy of Salem will preside. Long Time Resident Thomas B Duncan Dies in Newberg
Thomas B Duncan longtime Newberg resident died at his home at Second and Grant streets after a brave battle with pneumonia. Born in St Joseph Missouri 61 years ago he moved to Oregon in 1876. He married Ella Bingham in 1881 and left four sons and two daughters including Mary Honeywell of Portland Mabel Winters of Springbrook and sons James Thomas C Ernest and Xavier. Funeral services were at Hollingsworth Co chapel with Rev George H Lee and I O O F members in attendance in what was a large community observance.

The Miller Mercantile Newberg store held a Tuesday night banquet at the Imperial hotel with 23 attendees including employees and a few guests. G. O. Miller and Mrs. Murton attended from Portland. C. C. Murton served as toastmaster and A. B. Miller gave the opening speech about the store’s relation to six company stores and loyalty pledges were exchanged. A friendly challenge was issued to the Sheridan store over washer usage.
