Train times show a tri weekly service from the passenger depot at foot of Jeferson street to Portland at 4:40 a.m. and from Newhere at 5:10 p.m. with a Portland departure at 12:40 p.m. and a return to Airlie at 2 p.m.

Rear Admiral Kirkland declares Pacific coast defenses strong with ten vessels recently acquired and torpedo boats nearing completion at Portland and on the Sound. General Stewart L. Woodford, United States minister to Spain, arrives in Tangier with his Madrid party at 7:45 this evening after leaving the Spanish capital.
A London dispatch notes Washington will not use privateering in any war and will follow the four Paris Declaration rules. England, France, and Germany praise the stance, hoping it constrains Spain and protects neutral commerce while strengthening U S credibility and moral standing in Europe.
A 6000 strong Madrid crowd gathered with flags shouted Viva Kapanal and Down with the Yankees and burned the Stars and Stripes in front of Senor Sagasta's residence amid a reported operation. Across the Atlantic a Saint Thomas dispatch reports a revolution breaking out in the Ponce district of Porto Rico spreading across the island.
Washington April 26 news outlines a call for 125000 volunteers to serve in the United States army against Spain. The proclamation, issued by President McKinley, directs apportionment by state and territory and sets a two year term unless sooner discharged.
On April 25 Morro Castle opened fire on the US squadron near the New York off Havana. No hits occurred and the New York continued signaling while Morro Castle lights burned all evening.
