Golden Anniversary of Rev and Mrs Ezra Hayes Celebrated
The Relief Corps of Shiloh Post G A R plans a April 28 fiftieth wedding anniversary for Rev and Mrs Ezra Hayes with a program and banquet. The couple will host friends at their Third and Meridian streets home from 3 to 6 PM. Hayes, born 1842 in New York, married in 1864 in Indiana, served in the Union Army and ministered in multiple states before moving to Oregon and then Newberg. Simultaneously news from Vera Cruz reports U S Marines under Rear Admiral Fletcher seizing the city after Mexican resistance, with 12 Americans killed and 30 wounded and Huerta’s envoy given passports signaling possible war.
