California trip note on Catalina and anti-saloon towns
The author visits Catalina Island, notes the anti-saloon movement boosting Southern California towns like Long Beach and Pasadena, and recalls David Hewes’ historic California ventures. He describes Catalina's harbor, the Cabrillo steamer voyage, Dead Man's Island, marine gardens, and sea conditions, ending with a brief political update on local figures.
