Tragedy on Copper Mine Creek Excursion Train
A Southern Railway excursion train known as the Collver special from Cleveland bound for Florida plunged through Copper Mine Creek trestle about fifty miles north of Atlanta. Three died and eighty seriously injured as two hundred passengers fell into the creek. Engineer James Edwards and fireman Moge Baldwin were killed. The wreck near Copper Mine Trestle between Hiram and Dallas left many injured in Atlanta hospitals.

Motorman Frederick Hansen of the Broad Street line stopped his car and alerted residents after smoke appeared from the hall near the saloon. Proprietor John W Jaegers and his wife escaped with help from a cook as firefighters arrived. The blaze, faught by Engine Company No 13, caused $1000 to $1500 damage and started under the front hall stairway.
