Hanska School House Dedication Friday
Friday afternoon of this week the new Hanska village school house will be formally dedicated with exercises. Professor Rankin of the state university will deliver the principal address, with Co. Supt. R. B. Kennedy also speaking along with a few Hanska residents. A program by the school children and a lunch by Hanska ladies will follow in the basement.

Surplus Decided Upon by Farmers & Merchants Bank
At a special stockholders meeting the Farmers & Merchants State Bank decided to start with a capital of 50000 and a surplus of 20 percent totalling 60000. The plan calls for this surplus to be fully paid in by October 18. Directors chose to pay the entire surplus at once given current circumstances.

Old Pioneers Festival Draws 1200 At Turner Hall Park
Proceeds of picnic go to German Austro-Hungarian Red Cross fund. The Old Pioneers festival at Turner Hall Park drew a crowd reported between 1200 and 1500. A surplus of about 95 dollars will support the relief fund. The event featured the Second Regiment Band and Turnverein exhibitions, with Theo Mueller and Captain Steinhauser addressing attendees in German.

September Weddings Tie Nuptials in Local Catholic Ceremonies
Miss Anna Kunz and William Farrell wed at the Catholic parsonage with close relatives present. The couple planned a short honedadee trip and will reside in Mottville Iowa where Farrell works as a bridge carpenter. A second marriage followed for Maria Scheible and Oren Frasch at St John’s Church Searles with plans for a northern state and Wisconsin honeymoon. Springfield Man Found Dead in Tailor Shop
Garrit Dewitiker of Springfield reportedly died by hanging in his small tailor shop early last week. Deputies and Deputy Coroner Dr. Meierdi responded after neighbors alerted authorities when the shop door was forced open Wednesday morning.
