J O Case in charge of maintenance for Trunk Highway No 7 between New Ulm and Sleepy Eye reports he has been instructed by state highway commissioner C M Babcock not to remove snow. If winter stays moderate and branch roads stay open, the trunk highway will remain passable for auto travel. The belief that Case caused delays is unfounded. he followed directives from the state commission.

Stranger drinks poison alcohol in depot incident
Peter Smith a Kenosha county farm hand drank denatured alcohol at the North Western depot. Police and doctors acted quickly to treat poisoning at Loretto Hospital after he was found with two bottles. He survived and left the city Monday morning after antidotal care and stomach pumping.

Death claims dancer at St James Armory dance
Samuel Swiningson station agent for the Omaha road at St James and a prominent resident died instantly at a St James Legion post dance in the Armory Friday night. He had just danced with his wife when he collapsed and struck his head. He was about 67 years old and survived by his wife three daughters and a son.

R M Hicks former manager of New Ulm Grocery Co suffered a heavy loss when Spencer Grocery Co Spencer Iowa burned last week. Hicks has headed the Spencer firm since leaving here in late April. The fire destroyed a frame temporary building with stock and books saved. Insurance outcome unknown but friends fear severe loss. Miss Edna Bendixen of Springfield visited Jos Epple’s South German Street home last week and returned home Sunday.

Woman Falls Into Cistern in Welcome and Dies
Mrs. Anna Margaretha Fedde of Welcome Minnesota died after falling into a cistern opening in the rear entry of the Fedde home. Her husband, 71, jumped in to save her, tying her to a pipe with suspenders. She passed away despite aid. Funeral held at Welcome Evangelical church. Survived by husband eight children 22 grandchildren six great grandchildren. Born Germany January 13 1850 emigrated to America at 18. Married 1871. The couple observed their golden anniversary October 21 this year.
