Death claims one of New Ulm’s early pioneers
Jacob Petry a 1832 Germany native and longtime New Ulm resident died after an abdominal obstruction operation at St. Alexander hospital. He was buried at the city cemetery after services at Turner hall led by Fred Pfander with Maennerchor, Mozart Club and Turn Verein members in attendance. He came to the U.S. in 1850, lived in the east, moved to New Ulm in 1865, and left eight children. He was a carpenter, respected neighbor, and music lover active in Maennerchor and Turnverein.
