Fire alarms reported Saturday morning at a residence on the western edge of the city. William Hoehne, held for investigation, was released after evidence failed to prove involvement. Chief Hieronig suspected an oil soaked under the bed as the ignition source, with insurance payouts then under scrutiny.
A county delegate Yyubin Leekate from Brown County is slated to attend the State Conference of Corrections and Chinese alliances. A key paper by Andrew Eckstein, chair of the county commission, will be discussed in St. Peter’s city this November.
County's October settlement shows thirty three of eighty two schools meeting state standards and receiving aid totaling 8124.82. Remaining districts five and one semi graded receive 240 each. three high schools New Ulm Sleepy Eye Springfield get 130.5 each. two rural districts get 37 each. twenty six first class schools listed with varying amounts. State supervision aims to raise all districts to required standards. A girl seeks general housework at the office.
Union Sabbath observances mark the dedication of a new Evangelical Association church in the city. Bishop Horn of Cleveland will preside at the main 10 o’clock service on Sunday, with visiting clergymen Otto Schultz Sleepy Eye August Zick Danube C C Engelhard Sherburn A L Stapf Mankato assisting. Evening union service will feature German Methodist and Congregational churches in English. The modern, carpeted brick structure will seat a large audience and include steam heating and other comforts.
Mary Johnson of Evan formerly jailed for intoxication challenges county records and press reporting claiming she was not married to a man seeking divorce and that her husband has abused her for eight to ten years. She seeks correction and expresses sympathy yet remains in hardship.
Jas. Beecher the former paymaster and Frank Baasen his clerk arrived home after three years at sea and twenty days to prepare transcripts of their reports. Beecher will stay in the city awaiting department orders and a possible land assignment. Baasen accompanies him hopeful Beecher will secure a suitable station.
County commissioners spent much of the session arranging three new ditches funded by a 7178.34 borrowing from the state to aid dry low lands. Bonds total 1000 each with gradual maturities through 1917 at 3 percent interest. Also approved three phones for the court house and reported births including Wellson, Roose, and Aischka families.
The records note the deaths of Kasunke and Kirchof infants in October 1905. Kasunke-On Friday October 1905 a little girl of Mr and Mrs Gotlieb Kasulke. Kirchhof-On Sunday October 20 1905 the seven months daughter of Mr and Mrs Kirchof of Lafayette. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Lutheran church with interment in the Lutheran cemetery.
