Destructive Cut Worm Threat to Minnesota Gardens
A spring surge of cut worms endangers crops across Minnesota, shredding onion, potato, lettuce, radish, and cabbage plants while leaving stems cut just above soil. Worms hide most of the day, emerge midnight to 4 am, and can be killed by heavy plowing or burying paper collars or tin cans around plants to deter attack. Fall drought or wet seasons affect moth and egg survival. The article also mentions Yankee Robinson Shows in New Ulm with guards against grafters and a reward for criminals nearby.
