Census asks New Ulm homeowners for encumbrance data

Principal Powers Resigns From New Ulm High School

Professor Ronald V. Powers, newly elected principal, was released from his contract by the local board. He intends to leave teaching for another line of work. A special board meeting this week will select his successor, with several applications already on hand. Superintendent Arnold Gloor says vacancies in high school and grade instructors will be filled. Nearby, Miss Jean Treadwell hosted bridge for the local high school ladies who will not return next year, at Mrs. H L Beecher’s home. A social evening and luncheon followed.

Vye and Wilson Rebuked by McLeod Grand Jury

McLeod county grand jury condemns A D Wilson and Vidian B Vye for extortion on farmers during WWI era. They call for return of blood money and warn no criminal action possible due to three year statute of limitations. Jury notes Red Cross funds fully returned. some War Work funds and expense money remain with individuals.

Minneapolis Tourists Toast New Ulm Visit

About 100 Minneapolis trade boosters arrived by a 13 car train with the 161st Field Artillery Band and spent two hours in New Ulm. They were welcomed by local officials, toured streets, heard music, and distributed carnations and souvenirs to children. The party planned a broader tour through Minnesota and nearby states, ending with a Saturday return to Minneapolis.

Wear a Poppy on Memorial Day Across Minnesota

All over Minnesota and the nation citizens will wear blood red poppies for Memorial Day honoring fallen soldiers. The American Legion has adopted the red poppy and officials including Governor Preun and mayors endorse the plan to provide poppies to citizens. New Ulm Triumphs in Second Game

The New Ulm baseball nine won its second game 6 to 1 against Winthrop. Bruzek started, Hamann finished with three innings, and Miller pitched one. Pfeiffer led hitters with a sacrifice fly two doubles and a single as New Ulm totaled 14 hits. Shea and Deppe sparked the offense, while Oates and Stoneking anchored the infield.

The games committee of the New Ulm Baseball Association has booked eight June games with potential two more. Local Re publics of St. Louis Park visit New Ulm Sunday

The local team from St. Louis Park known as the Re publics will travel to New Ulm on Sunday, described as fast and competitive with city teams. On Monday the locals host Ville Gi at the focal diamond in a battle royal with a new pitcher to be tried out in one game.

Grain and clothing drive for Central Europe relief

In Holy Trinity Catholic church Rev. Robert Sehlinkert read Archbishop Dowling's appeal for grain and clothing to aid Central Europe. A diocesan committee was formed to solicit wheat, corn, and cast-off clothes, with a Minnesota archdiocese drive already contributing $34,000. Local parish committees were appointed to organize and distribute the relief effort through an archdiocesan slate led by Archbishop Dowling.
