Militia Boys Take Oath as National Guard Called Out

Captain Adolph Klause of Company A orders rapid recruitment to war strength ahead of a July 15 mobilization. The War Department plans mass conscription if needed, with Minnesota awaiting guard mobilization and training across southern and western depots.

Guardsmen Transfer to Reserve After Expiring Enlistments

A number of guardsmen whose enlistment terms expired on the border were not reenlisting and were moved to the national guard reserve. The reserve would form only two or three regiments at most, limiting immediate expansion.

Old Settlers Reunion Set for Franklin June 22 23

Three Tracy Pioneers Die In Four Days

The city of Tracy mourns three pioneer citizens dying within four days. Irisband, first settled on a Tracy homestead in 1878, died May 14 at age 69. Mrs Wardell, with her husband J.M. Wardell, died May 12 at 76. Johanna Berkey, who arrived in Tracy in 1885, died May 11.

Springfield Silk Thief in Prison Pleads Guilty to Five Years

Springfield resident Al Rhorosen identifies Curley Clause as the accomplice in Blue Earth robberies. Clause and an associate pleaded guilty to attempting to rob H. C. Eder & Co. at Blue Earth May 18 and received a five year Stillwater sentence. Joe Lumbee wounded in a blue earth gunfight to be arraigned soon, expected to plead guilty. Henderson and Murphy gang disrupted. Clause behind bars with others dispersed.

Memorial Decoration Day Observance Planned by Local G A R

Commander Jacob Klossner Jr of Hecker Post and committee finalize Decoration Day events. Procession forms at Indian Monument at 9 am, led by Hofmeister's Band, marching to City Cemetery for English and German addresses, roster reading, and salutes. About seventy graves across three city cemeteries decorated, with Boy Scouts and many citizens in attendance. Company A, Captain Klause, said to lead in line.

Swan Lake Ditch Hearing Draws Strong Opposition

A May 28 hearing in St Peter will consider draining Swan Lake to reclaim several thousand acres. Ducks hunters fear loss of prime hunting grounds while residents warn flood risks and diminished water supply. Former New Ulm Boy Drowned in Lake Benton

Mra A A Alwin and her two sons Chester and Stanley with daughter Misa Joyce Alwin returned from Lake Benton after attending the funeral of Oliver Diederich. The 19 year old, nephew of Mrs Alwin, drowned when the canoe capsized while a companion tried to reach for a dropped paddle. his body was not recovered until the next morning.

Gus Vogel Joins Army Hunters Club Scores

Gus Vogel reports from Minneapolis that he has joined the United States army and joined two William Penn School directors B O Adams and M A Byers in the cavalry. They plan to depart next Saturday for St Louis then San Antonio for training and seek excitement in Kings and France. Also mentioned are John Havenstein Jr and Henry J Meyer among others at New Ulm and references to Charles Havenstein 70 week before departing.

Son Goes To Army As Woman's Mind Fails

Mrs Henry Paffrath of Springfield, mentally unsettled, was taken in by Mankato police after her adopted son was deemed eligible for U S Army service. Walter Paffrath later joined the army, and the mother sought to recall him. The recruiting officer said the boy had already been sent to Jefferson Barracks, St Louis.
