Minnesota Adopts New Motor Tax Law Explained

The Just Legislature approves a state motor tax shifting from local to state funds. It sets two percent rates based on price and age with a $12 minimum for low priced cars, $15 for heavier models, and a wheelage tax possibility for cities. Agricultural tractors and trailers are exempt or lower taxed. Gibbon hosts a baby clinic Friday.

Twenty one De Molay Commandery members from this city traveled to St Peter on Friday to witness the Knights Templar degree conferment and attend the past commanders banquet. Old Recluse and Moonshine Visitor In New Ulm

In New Ulm a local character known as South American George shared moonshine with a Sunday visitor at the old woolen mills near the Cottonwood river. Mueller pleaded guilty Monday morning to drunkenness, paying 12 dollars including a $6 fine and costs after two visitors and a buggy ride led to a troubling day and a hospital stay.

Burglars Hit Winthrop Stores In One Night

Burglars broke into the G L Bundlie grocery and the F N Nelson garage in Winthrop on Tuesday night, stealing about 4.00 in change and a few sardines from the grocery and 6.00 in small change plus inner tubes from the garage. An attempted break in at the office cafe failed, and the Winthrop creamery was entered Wednesday morning with nothing stolen.

Veteran August Nehls Reaches Forty Years with New Ulm Brick

August Nehls, a longtime employee of the New Ulm Brick and Tile Yards, marked four decades of service late last month. Born February 4, 1847 in Pyritz Germany, he came to America in 1874 and joined the yard staff in 1881. He and Rosa Hartneck married in 1879 and raised eight children.

Three youths arrested for placing railroad spikes on main track

Peter Heck Ralph Simmet and Alvin Landwehr youths from the north end were taken before Judge William B Mather after confessing to repeatedly placing spikes stones and bolts on the Northwestern main line between Tenth North street and the city cemetery. They warned to refrain from such dangerous pranks.

Citizenship Papers Granted in Brown County Court

In Brown County, 25 final citizenship papers were granted on the first day of the May term, from a total of 33 applications. The session included questions by Federal representative MD. Herman and the denial of three aliens by Judge Olsen, with five cases continued.
