Heating Company Posts $8604 Net, Stocks Near Payoff

From the 1922 annual stockholders meeting of New Ulm Heating Company, officers reported total receipts of 11806.18 for the year ending May 1, 1922, with 5 percent to the depreciation fund and 2034.96 set aside from an investment of 40709.29. After expenses of 60.25 and interest of 1106.79, net income stood at 8604.13 to retire stock, with beginning outstanding stock 15446.49 and projected full payoff in about seven years. Directors Vogel, Johnson, Englebert, Crone, and Samson were reelected.

Monday evening at Turner Hall featured Mya Tester delivering a dramatic soprano performance of high craft. Despite a small turnout, the audience praised her flawless enunciation and marvelous interpretation, with listeners transported to grand city concert halls.

Burglary at Sleepy Eye Clothing Store This Night

Palace Clothing Store in Sleepy Eye robbed of about 1400 dollars during the night of May 11. George Foster and A. D. Bertrand named as perpetrators. Entry via rear basement window. About 20 suits of several makes stolen. No clues. Sheriff offers 100 dollar reward. Springfield reports a small robbery as well.

Fourth Will Be Quiet In N Y Speed Events Planned At Fair

The Brown County Fair Association scrapped July 4 celebrations in New Ulm to fund the sixtieth anniversary of the Indian Massacre and avoid overburdening business leaders. Plans shifted to a series of speed events at the race track, with auto races likely and dates not fixed. The fairgrounds' cattle barn area gained trees to improve sightlines, while reservations stack for cattle and hog exhibits. Baby Beef entries number 24, and fair dates are August 28–30, with Nicollet County Fair following August 23–26. Big attractions booked include a Statuary Act and the Seven Arabian Tumblers, plus other acts by Frank DeRue and a trio of aerial performers.

Chautauqua Programs Set For New Ulm June Week

The Chautauqua will be held in New Ulm from June 16 to 22 with the White-Meyers Chautauqua Company providing entertainment at the Armory. Afternoon programs include a musical appreciation demonstration by the Croatian Tamburitza Orchestra, the Anderson-Ring Duo, entertainment by James O Connor and Frank G. Armitage, The Mascot Orchestra, Music Memory Contest, Howard Russell's Scottish Revue, Abel Cantu-Decture Mexica and Mexicans, and more. ticket sales will begin soon.

Missing Faxon farmer Joe Shaughnessy found dead

The body of Joe Shaughnessy a well known farmer of Faxon township was found in an unused barn near the Henderson depot last week The decomposition suggested death had occurred months earlier He was last seen January 6 and at about 45 years old leaving a widow and nine children.

Brown County Treasurer seeks mandamus over clerk hire

County Treasurer Henry J. Berg petitions Brown County District Court to compel County Auditor Louis G. Vogel and County Board Chairman Herman Polkow to issue vouchers for clerk hire and deputy treasurer Ed J. Berg, arguing pre November 3 1921 rates and 1920 1921 valuations justify higher pay. The judge issued an alternative writ setting cause for May 22, with officials contending current law caps clerk hire, while the treasurer seeks a ruling affecting Brown County.

Company A News Reports Range Improvements and Summer Shoots

The target range west of the City has been improved by Company A and is now one of the best in the state. The range will host Sunday shoots all summer with Company A on three Sundays and the Civilian Rifle Club on the fourth. Starting next week, rifle scores will be published in the Review.

Police investigate a string of car thefts on South Broadway and South German Street. Charles Emmerich found his auto missing and later recovered on North Broadway. Ed Rubi’s Ford touring car vanished from Wim Pfeifer’s garage and showed up near Turner Hall Park. B J Krahn’s car vanished from Crone's yard and George Gasink confessed to taking it, driving to Springfield and leaving at Central Garage. Police pursue arrests as evidence accrues. Crowded Brown County Civil Calendar Opens May Term

Brown County district court in New Ulm starts its May term with 28 civil cases on the trial docket and three criminal cases to be heard by jury. Eighty jurors including seven women serve on the grand jury. foreman is Louis D. Krook. Court proceedings list numerous civil actions and continuations, with many cases expected to settle or be carried to next term.
