Flowers Sold for Red Cross Benefit by Miss Marti

Miss Lea Marti offers lilies and sprays from Sehell gardens to raise funds for the local Red Cross. Flowers will be sold in bunches at 25 and 50 cents each, with lilies available in large quantities during the event. Telephone orders also accepted to support the cause.

Brown County Surpasses Liberty Loan Goal in Six

Brown County reports full over subscription in the Third Liberty Loan with 1,129,050.00 total against an 850,000.00 allotment. About 5,102 subscriptions exist for a 25 percent distribution from an estimated 20,400 residents, including 600 women subscribers who contributed 88,400. Brown County Court Calendar Sees Lengthy Spring Term

The May term of Brown County District Court opens Monday with nineteen civil cases carried over from December and twenty one new civil cases. Only one criminal case, State v Carl F Stucke for non support, is listed. One grand jury case and a noted case of Frank Kelley for taking liberties with a 14 year old girl are also on record. Thirteen apply for citizenship with only four likely to be considered, eight are war country nationals ineligible under current law. Grand jury reports at 11, then civil and criminal calendars begin. Petit jury to report Tuesday at 11.

Ninety Called for Next Draft by County Officials

Sheriff Julius reports Brown County must ready 90 men for entrainment to Camp Lewis between May 25 and May 80. The local draft depends on arrivals, with selection pending until departure date is fixed. Enlistments and discharges shift the pool as 64 brakemen and conductors, 40 engineers and firemen, 18 inspectors, 10 boiler makers, 25 gunsmiths and related trades are sought.

City Council Awards Coal Contracts and Amends Oil Deal

At a special city council meeting, 2000 tons of Wilmington lump coal were awarded to Bingham Bros at 3 50 a ton F O B mines with 90 day delivery. Bidters included Orient Chestnut 1000 tons at 2 30 a ton F O B mines. Oil contracts amended with Sinclair Refining to 50000 gallons with 10 percent leeway and city cancellation rights. A ditch project on 10th and 12th Streets was approved to drain surface water. Graff Livery Barn to supply fire teams and transfer equipment for improved service. An avenue light at Broadway and 7th South Street approved.
