River survey funds pledged for Minnesota flood relief
Commissioner Willard announces urgent flood relief actions in the Minnesota river valley following a Man kaki hearing that ordered the Minnesota Valley Drainage and Conservancy District. The district spans about 270000 acres from Browns Valley to above the Mississippi outlet and will be governed by a five member board appointed by ten judges. An appropriation of 335000 for engineering studies and field surveys will be used by the State Department of Drainage and Waters once organized. New Ulm Opens Season With Lafayette Next Sunday
New Ulm fans get their first look at the crack nine this year as they host Lafayette in Sunday action. Practice continues all week with batting in the forenoon and fielding in the afternoon. Local tryouts are planned to fill out the lineup with players such as Pfeiffer Becker Guenther Williams Dahms and Meixel among hopefuls. The infield features Born Bruseck Bunn Robinson Davis and Delke or Blakely, while Robinson from Sleepy Eye and Davis from Maddelid bring professional experience. A tentative schedule lists games against Winthrop Sleepy Eye Janesville Balaton Le Sueur and others through June, with weekday games in planning.

Commencement Speaker for New Ulm High School Class of 1921
Superintendent Arnold Gloor announces Dr. J. E. Bushnell of Westminster Presbyterian Church Minneapolis will deliver the commencement address for the Class of 1921 at Turner Hall on Friday evening June 3. Bushnell has led the Minneapolis church for about 20 years and spoke at the University of Minnesota commencement. Mrs. Anna Mans of Belgrade township Nicollet County died Sunday morning at the Home for the Aged linked with St. Joseph Hospital Mankato, aged nearly 80, leaving eight children. Funeral services will be at Belgrade Catholic church Wednesday morning.

Train cuts off portion of hat in moonshine incident
Albert Postel and a companion slept beside a railroad track in Riverside when a westbound Northwestern passenger train passed at 1:25 am. A wheel sheared off a hat and narrowly missed waking him. Switch crew halted the train to rescue the unconscious man who had been bearing a heavy load of moonshine.
