Class of 1921 at New Ulm High School Gains 55 Members

At the regular board meeting Superintendent Arnold Gloor listed 55 students comprising the Class of 1921, the largest in the school’s history. Twelve girls will complete normal training to become teachers next year, while some may not graduate if credits aren’t earned by June 3.

Rustic Romeo charms Turner Hall in senior class musical

Minnesota Legislature Aims to Aid Farmers with Cooperative Acts

The last session extended the 1919 cooperative law to allow federation of local co ops into large buying selling units. It gives the State Department of Agriculture oversight of farm product dealers and helps farmers on open markets in Minneapolis, Duluth, and South St. Paul. It outlaws speculative grain futures trading and strengthens dairy price protections. It provides audits at cost for co ops and funds for a state test mill to fix wheat grading standards and bread making qualities.

New Ulm Included in Trade Tour Visit

More than 100 Minneapolis business leaders launch a six day trade tour starting May 23 to visit 70 communities across Minnesota Iowa and South Dakota. New Ulm will host the group for a mission of optimism and mutual understanding with talks bands entertainment and school dismissals where possible to involve residents and distribute souvenirs.

New Cattle Barn Planned at Fair Grounds

At a directors meeting of the Fair Association a new cattle and horse barn will be built before this year’s fair. The concrete block structure will adjoin the hog barn and complete four modern buildings on the premises. Secretary W A Lindemann aims to host a carnival during fair time, but railroad rates hinder plans. races were discussed but not pursued due to insufficient interest.

Earth and Comet Pons Winnecke Rivalry Predicted

A Berkeley Observatory report predicts a summer event where Earth races the comet Pons Winnecke. The Earth will engage after the comet leads by 12 to 20 million miles, then push to trip up the comet, with a meteor shower expected when the tail flips on June 27. The naked eye will likely see nothing beyond the tail episode.

Archbishop Dowling to Visit New Ulm for Confirmation

Archbishop Austin Dowling of St. Paul will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to a class of 875 at Holy Trinity church in New Ulm next Sunday. He will also preach the High Mass at 10 30 AM. Dowling’s visit follows prior appearances tied to Catholic educational efforts. Chase Lindmeyer pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct before Justice Henningsen and was fined 50 dollars and costs after a raid found moonshine at his former establishment.

In South St. Paul Minnesota on May 2 1921 cattle receipts rose while hog prices slipped 10 to 25 cents from Friday with a range of 6 50 to 8 dollars and bulk 7 40 to 7 75 beef steers top at 8 50 feed lots mostly 7 40 to 8 00 calves and cows mixed gains noted hogs weaker sheep steady.

Skat Club Seeks Delegates For Milwaukee National

New Ulm Skat Club calls all players to a meeting on Monday May 9 to elect three delegates for the National Skat League in Milwaukee. The National tournament is set for June 11. In the latest club meeting Julius Krause earned first honors with 20 net games and John Schneider took second with 620 net points while Tony Nun claimed third with an album solo against Oye.
