Two Brothers Mill Accident Leaves Man Wounded
Gust, a mill worker, was pinned by a slipping log at the carriage and suffered a deep gash in his left hip before the log slid toward the saw. New Ulm Orator Wins District Declamatory Contest
Max Freitag of New Ulm claimed first place in the district declamatory contest held Friday evening at Sherburn, with five schools competing and Freitag chosen by unanimous judges. The state contest at St Paul on May 12 will award a gold medal and a school cup to the district winner. Freitag and fellow New Ulm entrant Victor Reim were backed by coach Principal P. W. Hutson, whose training shaped the strong showing. Freitag, a high school junior, is active in the Protean Literary Society and is expected to fare well in the state contest.

Cambria Battle Leads to Court Hearing in Mankato
The Cambria clash during an April 7 night using neck-yokes and other weapons sent participants to court in Mankato. Henry Walters faces second degree assault charges after a confrontation over blocking the chimney at Woodmen hall during a rehearsal. At a special meeting of non commissioned officers of Company A at the Armory last Wednesday evening resolutions urged Captain Babtiste Groebner not to resign and to prevent such a move. The group defended the company and cited Major Johnson’s remarks from federal inspection praising the NCOs and noting the unit’s first class equipment. The infantry company now prepares for its annual encampment at Lake City and begins studying out post duty for extensive use during camp.

Firemen Elect Delegates to State Meeting
Chisholm will host the state firemen convention from June 14 to 15 with several hundred delegates. The town plans elaborate entertainment including a fire drill and races along the Mesaba range.
