New Ulm Roller Mill to rebuild a modern plant

April 10th will rebuilt New Ulm Roller Mill Co has decided to construct a larger scale plant with many improvements. Losses adjusted satisfactorily. J H Lee of Minneapolis met with officers to settle fire losses. Henry Bogel to visit milling centers to plan an up to date facility. Citizens urged to support the project for New Ulm’s main industry.

Quiet City Election With No Opposing Ticket

City election will be quiet with only one ticket in the field as present officials file by petition and seek re election. No candidates filed for constable. registration day showed light turnout in three wards. The New Ulm community hosts a flower growing contest with 30 000 California Sweet Pea seeds from Rieg er distributed free by Eugene A Pfefferle The Reliable Druggist. Orchard Care Tips From April Farm Journal

Plant a tree, Jack. It’ll be growing while ye’re sleeping. Bobbie Burns prompts gathering brush and rubbish in the orchard. Wear rubber gloves when spraying. Plow depth near surface roots, about three inches. Avoid plowing during blossom. Urges more intensive, sensible farming and timely berry plant orders. Warns of canker worm, banding trunks, and cutting sick canes. Advises preparations for codling moth control and buying a spray pump. From April Farm Journal.

Enumerators Named for Brown County Census Jobs

Last Wednesday Brown County appointed census enumerators for New Ulm wards and nearby townships. Viola Fenske led all applicants with the highest mark among enrollments. other listed enumerators include Henry A. Herman John Henle Gerhard Schneider Ben Juni John Backer and Milford's team. Supplies arrive from Pipe Stone supervisor Gilmore and work starts April 15.

State Skat Tournament Planned in Minnesota

Skat players in New Ulm and nearby regions are invited as Minnesota’s first State Skat Tournament is set for August in Minneapolis under the Minneapolis Skat Club. The event, likely at Medicine Lake, may attract about 800 players with prizes for winners. Club officers include President Dr. F. A. Humann and Secretary Robert Naumann. The club rooms are at 923 N Washington Ave and open Saturdays and Sundays. Nearby residents and out of town players are welcome to visit.

New Ulm Foundry Sold to Eagle Roller Mill Co

The Eagle Roller Mill Co buys the New Ulm Foundry for 8000 dollars, with Chas. Leonhardt retaining moulds and machinery. The firm plans to run its own machine shop, equip it with modern gear, and employ two expert machinists, while the foundry portion will serve as a garage for now. Possession is set for June 1.

Easter was observed across the world with the resurrection story and springtime spirit. In New Ulm services were large and devout despite a high wind that troubled Easter parades and woman in hats. attendance was unusually strong, with many who rarely attend church on ordinary occasions.

George Brooks Drowned on Swan Lake in Windy Crossing

The Old Hermit of Choke Cherry Island named Brooksville is drowned while returning from Nicollet with eggs in a boat. A storm capsized the craft. Brooks, about 70 and English-born, was found in Swan Lake. He lived alone on the island, tended cottages for hunters, and leaves a history shared by Swan Lake residents. The Swan Lake Hunters' club of Mankato took charge of the funeral and plans a monument.

Polly of the Circus at Turner Theatre Next Sunday

The Frederic Thompson production Polly of the Circus comes to Turner Theatre next Sunday evening with rare scenery and circus effects. Critics praise its literary and dramatic quality and the show features acrobats clowns bareback riders trapeze artists trained horses and a moving caravan finale. Smash Up at Kasota Injures Several in Passenger Wreck

Last Wednesday the west bound Northwestern train on the St Peter New Ulm line crashed into freight cars in Kasota yards due to an open switch. Seven or more people were seriously injured including mail clerk John Moriarty, baggage man Harry Muede King, and D J Severance. The train left Mankato Junction about 12 21. A high wind and dust masked the open switch as the engineer Moore could not see it until near collision. The engine ruined the first car and demolished the second, sending remaining cars forward about 150 feet. Other injured were W L Bradshaw Adolph Martin and Elis Cashen.
