Arrested and Bound Over Grand Jury
John Liebl of Sleepy Eye was jailed in New Ulm after a quarrel in Sleepy Eye escalated to confrontation and a holstered gun. The concealed weapon charge was bound over to the grand jury by Special Municipal Judge Geo Schmidt. Liebl was brought to jail by Sleepy Eye’s city marshal and to post bail soon.

Terrible Fire Averted Near Livery Barn
A fire started in rubbish east of the livery barn during a strong wind storm. Flames spread toward the railroad, burning old machinery and threatening stock yards before the fire department and local help confined the blaze and minimized damage.

Old Settler John C. Toberer Dies After Brief Illness
John C. Toberer a founding figure in New Ulm Minnesota and early settler who helped establish an independent Southern Minnesota colony died after a brief illness. A German immigrant he arrived in 1856 after a stint in New York and joined local leaders to push for freedom and settlement. His death marks the passing of a respected business man and pioneer of the community.

The obituary notes August Toberer born 1836 in Württemberg Germany died after a stroke following heart trouble. A jeweler by trade and active defender of New Ulm during Indian threats, he helped found the Turn-Verein and supported community welfare. Survived by wife Louisa Nagel and two daughters Anna and Klfrieda, funeral at Turner Hall with Masons G A R and 2nd Reg. Band participating.
