Dirty Dairy Stables Prompt Fines And Inspections

State dairy inspector J C Joslin toured city creameries and found one passable operation Herman Pfaender’s, while several others were cited for dirty barns filthy cows and poor ventilation. Fees range from 15 to 100 dollars with possible prosecutions if conditions do not improve. inspectors say clean milk is essential to public health.

Medical Banquet for Brown and Redwood County Doctors

Brown and Redwood county medical association plans an April 13 banquet in the city after a westbound train arrival at 7 o’clock. The program includes talks on gastric disease, malpractice suits, the medical fee bill, organ public benefits, appendicitis, rectal disease, proprietary prescriptions, and case reports by named physicians from Minneapolis to Redwood Falls.

Union Concert Band plans debut with city concert

A new ensemble called the Union Concert Band led by Robert Scherer is preparing a concert soon, likely on the first Sunday after Easter. The group forms from parts of the Cadet and Concordia bands and has trained for six months with a diverse lineup of clarinets, brass, strings, drums, and saxophone.

Death of Louis Schilling longtime city clerk

Louis Schilling died Friday at 71 after a life of service from pioneer timberwork to Ninety Minnesota Battery veteran. He served as city clerk for decades, guided by the council, and was honored by the police, fire and G A R groups at his funeral with formalities led by Captain Steinhauser. He faced an 1893 accident and years of illness but remained genial and devoted to the city. The Springfield Advance notes his boyhood marbles episode and the retired brick yard proprietor in fond reminiscence.

Large Confirmation Class at St Pauls Lutheran Church

At St Pauls Lutheran Church last Sunday the upper grades were examined in religion and next Sunday the confirmation class will take their examination conducted by Rev C J Albrecht. Fifty members are in the class. boys include Henry Hein John Melzer Oscar Koees Norman Strumk Martin Windhorn Arthur Windhorn Otto Beyer Helmut Schmidt and others. Randall disputes story on steam wagon voyage

Winona writer B H Randall challenges claims about Maj Brown and a steam wagon's movements. He states the steam wagon was sent to Henderson, recounts its first start for the agency at Yellow Medicine, and notes a 28 day run covering nearly 50 miles before abandonment east of Fort Ridgely where raiders fired on it. The engine later served in Maj Brown's Henderson flouring mill.
