Coal Zone System to Allocate Fuel Nationally
The United States Fuel Administration announces a zone system to distribute soft coal, aiming to limit cross country shipping and avert a winter famine. Eastern coal stays east, central and western states get near home sources, with permits for certain special uses. Summer production must rise to feed zones, and early coal buying is urged to prevent shortages. Central states rely on Minnesota via Wisconsin routes. Rockies and Pacific states draw from western fields with summer sales in Missouri Valley.
